Rhosneigr Boatowners Association
The RBA was formed in the summer of 1972, with its broad objective being to "maintain, encourage and safeguard the development of boating and watersports in Rhosneigr". That aim continues today, and the RBA welcomes new members who have an interest in watersports, beach activities or who own a boat in Rhosneigr.
The sailing section is well organised with many events taking place in July and August, the highlight of which is Race Week. During this week (usually the beginning of August) there are slow, medium and fast handicap series for the competitive members, with prizes also to be had for the juniors, not forgetting any enthusiastic young crewmembers. For those wishing to improve their knowledge and technique, courses such as Day Skipper theory, GMDSS radio courses and powerboat practical courses are held for members at very reasonable rates. During the summer, for those wishing to sail further afield in their own boats in company with others, short cruises may be arranged, weather permitting.
The summer programme also includes beach activities for the younger members, such as sandcastle competitions and scavenger hunts and the ever-popular, no age-limit Tide Race. Teenagers enjoy a Race week Disco, whilst families with younger children can book in for the sell-out Family Barbeque.
At the start of Spring members receive a copy of Boatpool magazine, filled with articles to revive their flagging winter spirits. Included in this is a copy of the summer programme of events and a tide table for Rhosneigr.
The RBA welcomes new members. The annual membership rates are £10 (family) or £6 (individual). For more information see the noticeboard outside the Sandymount Club, High Street, Rhosneigr.
